Imagine… a July day in the garden. I was going to suggest sitting and enjoying the splendid displays you’ve achieved. But it’s now, May and June, that you have to do the work to enjoy that time of peace and rest.

It’s now that the borders may look a little weary so we need to keep on top of that. Ensure you deadhead and cut back the shabby remains of perennials. If this causes a gap inject some colour by adding an annual or moving a pot into its place.

Ensure all pots and hanging baskets get plenty of water even if it’s rained recently… it’s amazing how dry they get. If you have an ugly spot in the garden which detracts from the rest, try hiding it with a trellis or large pot and plant it up. Be inventive, be unique. There are no rules, only yours!
