Some of our I Have A Voice Too! members were asked to take part in a project called Together We Build, organised by the National Paralympic Heritage Trust.
We were called curators and Zoom meetings were held to create and fine tune this project. The project involved displaying previously unshown Paralympic memorabilia at various locations in Buckinghamshire.
After choosing their items the curators completed forms about why they chose that particular item. Andrew and I chose a programme from the London 2012 Paralympic Games and an entrance ticket. Andrew, being blind, then had the writing on our items put into Braille.
Then we were given locations for the displays. I Have A Voice Too! was allocated Marlow Library, Milton’s Cottage and The Elgiva Theatre, Chesham. Visits were made to the various locations to select the positioning of our items. We then created the Open Day for Milton’s Cottage which was based around the coffee houses of the 18th century. I Have a Voice too! was invited to sing our song, Jubilation at many of the venues on their special open days.
At The Elgiva Theatre in Chesham the Paralympian Gold medallist swimmer Stephanie Millward told her story and we watched a film of her winning the gold medal. She also presented curators with certificates for participating in Together We Build.
On Saturday 22nd April we took part in the open Mic night at Queens Park Arts Centre where we were entertained with music and comedy. We look forward to the next one.
